EAGLE TRAYS: A PIONEERING ORDER CASE PICKING SOLUTION

The R&D project developed by E80 Group tackles the issue of multi-shape and multi-size picking by implementing innovative robotic solutions capable of preparing pallets with non-homogeneous products for industrial plants and distribution centers.

A 2.92-million-euro research and development plan strives to push the frontier of logistic automation beyond its current limits, creating industrial innovation, added value in the supply chain and work opportunities.

"In addition to satisfying an overt market need, the T.R.A.Y.S. industrial research and development project brings innovative stimulus to the mechatronics supply chain, boosting the competitiveness of production and distribution, increasing security and sustainability in factories and contributing towards the creation of qualified employment opportunities", declares Enrico Grassi, President of the Group. "Once more E80 Group is showing how innovation in the field of logistics automation is integrated into production flows and smart factory processes".

The project

The investment of our Group is focused on the study and creation of an innovative system for the management and handling of both finished-product and mixed-product pallets, through robotics solutions that guarantee a high level of efficiency and safety.

The revolutionary new family of EAGLE TRAYS is a cutting-edge technology set to transform the landscape of logistics and supply chain operations, making a significant impact on businesses across various industries.

Our mission is clear: to automate and integrate layer and case-picking operations, revolutionizing the way mixed pallets are prepared for factories and distribution centers (DCs). With a firm focus on addressing the ever-evolving market-specific and variable needs, we try to deliver unparalleled reliability, and adaptability in our solutions. The EAGLE TRAYS system is designed to optimize the entire picking process, bringing forth a new era of productivity and precision. Our advanced robotic solutions work seamlessly to ensure that layers and cases are accurately selected and arranged, streamlining the workflow, and boosting operational throughput.

EAGLE TRAYS is an innovative solution inspired by the experience our Group has developed over the years in different industrial fields. It operates independently in factories that manufacture and distribute consumer goods and integrates with all our own systems and third-party systems, boosting the efficiency of the processes and flows.

The solution

This solution consists of automatic vehicles (AGVs) and robotic units that – through specific grippers and interacting with the management software – will be able to prepare and unpack pallets of non-homogeneous products and packages, satisfying requirements which market trends are making increasingly specific and variable.

“As always we are right by the side of our customers, attentively observing and anticipating market needs; with the TRAYS project, our Group provides factories and distribution centers with an automatic, scalable and flexible solution, capable of adapting to business subject to strong variability of demand in terms of volume and products, providing current and future customers with certainty as to the value of the investment" Vittorio Cavirani, Vice President of E80 Group, explains. "Multi-shape and multi-size picking is considered one of the most ambitious goals of logistics, with significant market shares and increased share potential in the short term: investing in research in this field is indispensable for our Group, to provide our customers with increasingly innovative and functional solutions that are instrumental for their growth targets".

This highly flexible automated solution developed in-house by E80 Group enables the efficiency of greenfield and brownfield plants to be increased in a scalable and modular way, guaranteeing long-term high performance, monitored in real-time, as well as a significant increase in the safety of all operations.

Partnership

The “Food Supply Chain Center of the Alma Mater Studiorum - University of Bologna, is also involved in the TRAYS research project, specifically in the design, management, monitoring, and optimization of a holistic and innovative model for the environmental and ergonomic assessment of the new technological solution. Also, the "Enzo Ferrari" department of Engineering at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia is responsible for validating a simulative environment in which the system operational logics will be configured.
