YPÊ: DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION FOR A SUSTAINABLE GROWTH

A 4.0 distribution center: the result of a winning partnership in the name of innovation.

Ypê distribution center in Brazil is a virtuous example of how to digitalize intralogistics processes through automated and integrated systems.

The outset

Ypê, a pioneering manufacturer of cleaning and personal hygiene products, was founded in 1950, in Amparo, at the heart of the State of São Paulo. Right from the outset, the company focused on sustainability, starting with the first item it ever made: a biodegradable bar soap naturally sourced.

Ypê soon earned the trust of consumers in the city and region, as well as that of millions of consumers nationwide in the following decades.

Today it is a leading Brazilian brand in the field of house cleaning, laundry care and personal hygiene products.

Transformation of the distribution center

Our group came onto the scene when Ypê embarked on its pathway of growth and sustainable innovation. The Brazilian company, which now employs over 6,300 people and exports to 10 different countries, resorted to our expertise in the transformation of its distribution center in Amparo, a brownfield plant that today is one of the most modern technological hubs in Brazil and Latin America.

"When we chose our partner for this project, we considered different criteria, such as safety, cutting-edge technology and innovative solutions, in addition to a vast knowledge on logistic handling systems, functionality, ease, professional development, and operational usability. All these were found in the solutions provided by E80 Group”. Waldir Beira Junior, President of Ypê, declares.

E80 Group solutions for Ypê

The application of the discrete-event simulation software, SmartDesigner, played a key role in the design of a tailored solution for Ypê distribution center, as tests were carried out in a simulated and controlled environment. This made it possible to obtain results before the implementation, as well as to establish investments and apply the required modifications. Tools were used to simulate the plant's flows, with the assessment of all the current and future operating scenarios, thus enabling the development of a realistic scenario. This way, the most efficient intralogistics solution was identified, with 95% reliability, in response to production increases or market changes.

Beira adds: "This project's implementation made us have a clean flow, reliability and accuracy in shipment scheduling. We were also able to optimize the number of pallet handling operations, reduce energy consumption, boost operating safety and comply with the average vehicle waiting time ".

A positive impact

Ypê has significantly benefited from this investment, both in terms of timing optimization and safety levels increase within the plant. Automated and laser guided vehicles (LGVs and AGVs) handle pallets of various types of products, integrating with all systems; they enable the connection of all processes within the DC, from truck loading and unloading to automatic warehouse, picking operations and shipping. This has boosted productivity, with a minimum margin of error and greater flexibility.

All this is made possible by our Group's software platform, which enables the efficient integration of systems, ensuring the integrated and automated management of all operations. A unique, one-of-a-kind software that communicates with the ERP of Ypê and coordinates the management of products, from the inbound phase to the Drive-In warehousing system and high intensity AS/RS warehouse. SM.I.LE80 ensures the functional and successful coexistence of wrapping machines and labeling systems, case and layer picking solutions, coordinating the handling of pallets of products with LGVs and AGVs, up to shipping to end customers.

Ypê has always been environmentally conscious, and, thanks to the development of its DC, it is one step closer to spearheading its sustainability targets. In November last year it received the Project & PMO of the Year Award - 2022 Edition, in the "Innovative Project" category, for its new Distribution Center (DC) 4.0.

The corporate social responsibility program has always been focused on social, environmental and economic issues: this is why Ypê has signed the Pacto Empresarial pela Integridade e Contra a Corrupção (Business Pact for Integrity and Against Corruption), an initiative of the Brazilian Institute of Businesses and Social Responsibility and received the "Pro-Ethics seal 2020-2021" from Brazil's Public Inspection Commission.

"We keep working to contribute to the company's longevity, the protection of the planet and people's well-being", Beira concludes, and our Group continues to be by Ypê’s side in this journey.
