Molinos Río de la Plata: a state-of-the-art distribution center

Standardize industrial processes in order to minimize risks and costs while simultaneously improving sustainability: the Molinos Río de la Plata case study.

Table of contents

In 2018 Molinos Río de la Plata, along with E80 Group, undertook the design and manufacturing of an automatic layer-picking system to make pallets with mixed products ready for shipment at its main distribution center in Buenos Aires.

The project's main objective was to standardize industrial processes in order to minimize risks and costs while simultaneously improving sustainability. The aim was also to improve productivity, the quality of supplies, and customer service. We achieved all these objectives thanks to our know-how: the flexibility and the reliability of our universal layer depalletizing gripper allow us to manage 340 SKUs and 5 product families; our implementation of automated and integrated systems enabled us to improve safety, eliminate errors in the creation of shipping orders, reduce time to market and even permit direct deliveries to customers.

Our consulting expertise proved fundamental in accurately managing the pre-engineering activities needed to run the project since the automatic layer picking system could be implemented without completely stopping the distribution center's operations.

The Buenos Aires plant delivers around 40% of the total volume sold by the company, so the system availability must be 100% guaranteed, as ensured by the preventive maintenance service offered by our Group, together with round-the-clock assistance, 365 days a year.

Highlights

  • A significant increase in productivity and safety.
  • Creation of pallets with mixed products ready for shipment
  • Reduced time to market.
  • Elimination of errors in the creation of shipping orders.
