Esprinet: automation, flexibility, and safety at the logistics hub in Cavenago di Brianza

In the heart of Cavenago di Brianza, Esprinet, a leading company in the wholesale distribution of technology products in Southern Europe, in 2023, it embarked on a profound transformation of its logistics hub. With over 65,000 square meters and more than 5 million items handled each year, the center mainly manages large volume inbound and outbound products. In this context, the adoption of automated and integrated solutions has represented a decisive turning point.

"We wanted to make the system more scalable, automated, and safe. Our goal was to increase operational capacity while maintaining a high level of service. We needed more structured flow management, with greater traceability and a significant reduction in errors," explains Fabrizio Corso, Logistics Manager at Esprinet Italia. To achieve this result, the company carried out a project in close collaboration with E80 Group, combining technological innovation with strategic vision and, making the Cavenago site a benchmark for the entire distribution ecosystem.

Performance and optimization

This transformation has made the logistics hub more efficient and better structured thanks to the introduction of E80 Group’s automated systems, delivering a significant boost in performance and a marked increase in safety across the entire plant, all while ensuring constant and timely service, even at peak times.

“We chose E80 Group- as Fabrizio Corso explains - for their ability to guide the customer through a tailor-made journey. What we appreciated was not only their advanced technology, but also their consultative approach. They listened to our needs, analyzed our workflows, and proposed a solution perfectly integrated with our existing structure.”

Thanks to advanced planning and shorter handling times, Esprinet has increased its operational capacity while maintaining high quality standards and a high degree of flexibility, required to serve more than 40,000 customers, from large retailers to end consumers.

LGV: intelligent automation for intralogistics

The integration of LGV (Laser Guided Vehicles) marked a strategic turning point for Esprinet. These automated vehicles precisely and safely handle the movement of inbound and outbound pallets within the warehouse and in the pre-staging areas, helping to make flows more controlled and reliable.

Implementation was particularly challenging, due to the complexity of the logistics center and the need to integrate the new systems with existing ones without interrupting operations. Thanks to simulation software and layout optimization, it was possible to minimize the impact on daily activities, especially in high-density picking and storage areas.

“The system now allows us to plan activities more effectively, reduce handling times, and ensure consistent and timely shipping services. We have also improved workplace safety, drastically reduced errors, and improved the quality perceived by the customer. Through the implementation of this solution, our ability to respond quickly to market demands has increased significantly”, explains Fabrizio Corso.

The presence of E80 Group's Resident Automation Engineer also guarantees Esprinet ongoing and reliable support in system maintenance as well as professional training for the team.

“Continuous support - Fabrizio Corso adds - is essential for optimizing processes in real time and driving continuous improvement. It provides stability and accompanies us on our path to innovation”.

Safety: SmartDect technology

The adoption of the SmartDect system has significantly improved the plant’s safety standards. Developed by E80 Group and based on Ultra-Wide Band technology, it enables real-time detection of the position, speed, and direction of operators equipped with tags.

“We adopted this technology because it allowed us to raise safety standards preserving full system operability and flexibility. This strategic investment reflects our ongoing commitment to responsible innovation”, Fabrizio Corso emphasizes.

In the event of a collision risk, the system activates immediate feedback (vibration, flash, sound) and intervenes by slowing down or stopping the LGV vehicle. This solution has strengthened safety measures while maintaining full system operability and flexibility.
